This is the News Analysis segment of the Voice of Biafra International (VOBI) broadcasts

For October 17, 2008

You have heard the news; now, the analysis…

Fellow Biafrans:

Every day, we are reminded of reasons why Nigeria could never be one—never was, never to be, not now. If Nigerians had any shame or any seriousness at all, they would admit this and stop pretending that Nigeria could ever be one. If Nigerians had any modicum of honesty left, if they could stop living in psychological denial, they would just come to the negotiating table and sign a Separation-Agreement so that each nation can go its separate way in peace, without further ado. But, for as long as Nigeria remains in pretense and in denial, and for as long as we are willing to act like sheep and lamb for slaughter at Nigeria’s altar, and continue to take this nonsense, we remain the losers, victims of unbelievable exploitation, subjugation, and persecution.

Why should it come as any surprise that Northern Nigeria has the highest illiteracy rate in Nigeria, Africa, and the entire world? The only surprise is that the structure of Nigeria is such that the North always grabs and retains power and control over the rest of Nigeria, in spite of its abysmally low literacy rate, forcing the rest of Nigeria to serve its needs. The surprise is that literate nations in Nigeria allow themselves to be enslaved by the unenlightened North, serving the North as sycophants, spineless grovelers and beggars, only too content to fight over the crumbs falling off high-tables prepared and maintained, not by the North, but by these self-same self-debasing nations. What a shame! The literacy gap forms a divide huge enough that only inanity and or insanity would justify any attempt to force the different nations together as one country in the first place; while denseness and psychic illness could justify present or ongoing sham attempts to claim that Nigeria is one.

The Northern leaders, long-used to bluffing their way through, intimidating and threatening the other spineless leaders of Nigeria into submission, have been exposed for what they are: fraudulent, thieving liars unable to better the lots of their own people while usurping and wielding incredible power, misused in looting resources which Nigeria steals from Biafraland; and while converting same to selfish and personal gains. In the meantime, these Northern leaders would have the temerity to accuse the real owners of the resources, of laziness and greed, a psychological “Projection” defense mechanism which has now totally been unmasked and made quite obvious even to the unaided. In their bluff-cum-arrogance, the Northern leaders recently boasted that the North had caught up with Biafra and the rest of the South in Education, or even surpassed them. In boasting so, the North were mocking us and hoping to demoralize us. All the while, the ranks of illiterate Northern children and illiterate Northern population actually swelled, it being impossible to hide such a burgeoning human catastrophe, except in the deceptive minds of the liars—their leaders.

If anyone thinks that this problem is just the North’s problem, let the person think again. Because, for as long as we are forced to live with the North in the same country, and for as long as the North usurps power and control in Nigeria, wielding it in the North’s sole interest—damn Nigeria—as it is wont to do, then, we shall all certainly perish. For example, in this matter of literacy, translating to “Education,” Northern leaders decided long ago (and were not reluctant to mention this in public), that their strategy for bringing the level of education in the North up to par with that in the South is to retard and freeze education in the South until the North catches up. This was the North’s “bright idea” for how to solve Northern Nigeria illiteracy—yes, using Nigeria’s resources to do so too, to boot. Before you laugh at this, know you that the North is nearing complete success with this strategy. Consider the most recent WAEC / WASSC Examination results in Nigeria. The failure rate was over 80%; when you work the numbers, you can figure that since there was a paucity of Northern Nigerian candidates to start with, the bulk of those failing this exam must have come from the South—and by implication, Biafra! The North has therefore technically and practically successfully applied the “’dumbing’ down” plan against the South, against Biafra. What the North has done to us in the area of Education, which we consider our own “baby,” is what the North will do to us in every other area of our talent, natural endowment and endeavor—if it has not done so already. And, the North used / uses resources from our own land, Biafraland—human and natural—to accomplish this, in their own favor, against us. And, all because one-Nigeria gives the North the opportunity, the structure, the means and the ways to accomplish this, another way to say that Northerners have commandeered the vessel of State called Nigeria to use solely to steal us dry, to exploit us, to run us to the ground and to grind us into dirt. It’s past dumbing down, now, and they are succeeding at it!

Well, fellow Biafrans, we will not allow this: that’s why, Biafra, and that’s why Biafra remains a certainty. We shall actualize Biafra, thus to save ourselves from marauding Northerners who only have on their minds parasitism, exploitation, destruction and victimization of our people. We will get out of Nigeria, thus to reclaim our right to develop ourselves at our own rate, while other nations get the same opportunity to do likewise. Each nation must live within its own realities and the defining boundaries thereof, not forced into the pernicious hostile arrangement of non-consenting, incongruous and parasitic relationship such as Nigeria is, a dysfunctional structure which encourages, then emboldens an illiterate nation to deliberately smother more enlightened nations, much as darkness would snuff out light.

It is examples like this which not only point out how Northern Nigeria is suffocating us; but also, how our own people have allowed us to be devastated by the North; and have also actively aided in our own destruction. Therefore, if you run into any Igbo or Biafran still wanting to belong in one-Nigeria, remind him or her of this particular matter; remind him or her that he or she, side by side with Northerners, is killing us today. Challenge such: ask such to offer reasons and justification for wanting us to remain in danger in Nigeria. Challenge such, and find out from him or her how it is that he or she has failed to take note of matters such as this, matters staring him or her in the face, all the time. Then, tell him or her that the reality is that only Biafra can rescue us from the ravaging clutches of the North and their Nigeria.

Biafra is in fact our destiny. Nigeria and its Northern marauders hold no life for us. Therefore, we embrace Biafra and actualize Biafra if we are to stay on the side of Life. Of course, Biafra—we—take Life’s side.

We are yet to see the MASSOB members, including Uchenna Madu, the Information Director of MASSOB, who have allegedly been finally granted bail by the Nigerian courts; nor the other jailed MASSOB members not mentioned in the reports. And then, there is the fresh batch of 380 MASSOB members and Biafrans recently imprisoned from May 30 this year, and awaiting trial in Enugu or Awka. The world now agrees that those seeking Self Determination for their Nations have a right to do so; when such activists actually employ a non-violent method, it is even easier for the world to accommodate them. Only in Nigeria does the government pretend that such rights are non-existent or cannot be acted upon: shame! We hold Nigeria accountable for the mistreatment of our people; and responsible for their safe and immediate release. We continue our vigil until their unconditional release.

Biafra alive! Because it is God Who makes it so.

That’s the News Analysis for the week. Thank you.
